From the Vaults - Wor Bro Dennis Hallam

I was contacted this week my Mrs Julie Chadwick, the daughter of Wor Bro Dennis Hallam, a long time Silver Cross member who died in 1996. Julie is still discovering some of her dad's things and found his jewels. She somehow tracked me down and asked if I'd like them for the lodge. Her dad stipulated they be returned in his Will.

Yesterday I picked them up. They include Craft, RA and AASR jewels. Also there was a photo which shows a very youthful Tom Kwok.

Dennis is third from the left, back row and Julie's husband Lawrence is far right front row. Tom tells me this was taken a month after the installation in 1984. Tom was Senior Warden and Dennis was DC. Dennis was WM twice.

First Degree - Mr David Bremner

Wonderful to welcome a great new member to Lodge Silver Cross No 17. Congratulations Bro David Bremner on taking your first step. David's father and grandfather were Freemasons in Scotland.
 
Terrific work by the team to kick off the year and we were delighted to welcome a number of visitors including Entered Apprentices from Southport, Duke of Leinster and Vigilance lodges.
 
It was great to see Wor Bro Mark Dole up from Adelaide to visit with his brother Wor Bro Jeff Dole who is the Master of Lodge St George. Also great to have Bro Bryn Smith with us. Bryn comes to us from Scottish working lodge Balmoral in Townsville. Bryn will joining Silver Cross in April.

About Lodge Silver Cross

  • About Lodge Silver Cross
    Lodge Silver Cross is a Masonic Lodge based in Brisbane Australia and is numbered 17 on the roll of the United Grand Lodge of Queensland. It was originally instituted as Lodge Silver Cross No 504 under the Scottish Constitution in 1869. It is was the fourth Scottish Lodge established in Queensland after Lodges St Andrew, Athole and Melville, and Caledonian. In 1904 Silver Cross joined the Grand Lodge of Queensland as No 8 and when the United Grand Lodge of Queensland was formed in 1921 it became No 17 UGLQ. In 2007 Silver Cross surrendered its warrant. However in 2016 it was granted permission by the Most Worshipful Grand Master to resume activity as Lodge Silver Cross and retain its roll number of 17. Lodge Silver Cross has returned to its Scottish Ritual Work and its original Scottish Craft livery of green and gold. It has become a 'sister' lodge of Lodge St George No 246 UGLQ. Lodge Silver Cross meets at the Masonic Memorial Centre at 311 Ann Street in Brisbane on the 2nd Thursday night of each month except June. Tyling time is 7.00pm. We conduct our Installation Ceremony on the 3rd Saturday in June each year in conjunction with Lodge St George.
